Brands. What are they good for? Absolutely everything. Sorry for sounding like a Material Girl, but we dig brands. Where would the watch market be without Omega, Seiko or Rolex? Would cars even be a “thing” without Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari or Tesla? At Bulang and Sons, we are not ashamed to say we have mad affection for certain brands and their products. That’s why Magazine B is to us what Andy Warhol’s Interview may be to others.
Magazine B is a monthly publication from South Korea which dedicates each and every one of their issues to one iconic brand from somewhere on the globe – while decidedly staying independent and ad-free itself. Between its covers, every issue of Magazine B not only presents many untold stories behind a brand, but also talks a great deal about the sentiment, the passion and the culture devoted to a particular company and its products.
In an international market where countless brands and products exist and compete, Magazine B shines a light on the truly relevant and inspirational ones, all the while pursuing its quest for the true value of a printed magazine format that becomes a desirable product itself – one that maintains a unique perspective that is increasingly disappearing due to overflowing information across all the different modern media outlets.
In each issue, Magazine B’s editors take the consumers’ perspective as they describe how they first learned about a brand and then grew deeply attached to it. They adopt a documentary format based on the idea that the best way of gaining insight into branding and marketing is not reading jargon-ridden textbooks on brand marketing, but seeing and feeling what is going on in the field, dealing with the fascination of a beloved trademark.
From professional brand managers to enthusiasts who simply want to learn about brand marketing and management: Magazine B really is for everyone who has an interest in brands or even thinks about starting their own business. Focusing on four basic standards that signify every successful brand – beauty, practicality, price and philosophy – each issue is packed with Magazine B’s unique insights, delivered via great text features and photos.
Magazine B is published in Korean and English and released both at home in Korea and overseas. Every issue comes in a handy 17×24 cm format and has 130 pages. From the over 50 issues published so far, we have picked and stocked five with a focus on some of the most interesting brands for our customers: Issue 17 highlights the Japanese bag brand Porter – which we also sell in our shop. Issue 32 focuses on Rimowa, the German manufacturers of the iconic aluminium suitcases. Issue 33 is all about the interior design powerhouse Vitra. In Issue 34, the German camera and lens manufacturer Leica is highlighted. And issue 41 delivers everything you always wanted to know about Rolex.
